One of the oldest but most iconic vehicles in movie history is definitely the Batmobile. So fans might be interested in the different film versions of the finest car in Gotham City.
For reference, the Bat-mania started on Detective Comics Issue #27 in 1939, per NSS magazine. Since then, Batman’s story has been played in the entertainment industry by 11 actors, 16 films, 15 TV shows, 12 video games, six novels and one musical.
Keep in mind that the Batmobile also received different updates for each appearance during these productions. This car ended up getting several versions, from an elegant gothic model to a futuristic military vehicle.

1. The Legendary 1955 Lincoln Futura
Adam West’s Batman and Burt Ward’s Robin presented a classic version of Batmobile back in 1966. Note that their manta ray-style vehicle is actually a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car built by Ford.
George Barris, the man in charge of the Batmobile’s design, bought the car form Ford for a symbolic sum of one dollar. Then he redesigned it to be the first Batmobile fully equipped with cool gadgets.
2. Tim Burton Batmobile 1989
Following the success of George Barris, developers decided to create a gothic masterpiece that blends classical elements with lethal weapons. So Tim Burton, Keith Short, Anton Furst, Terry Ackland-Snow and John Evans used a highly modified fusion between the Chevrolet Impala and Fiat Turbina to create a brand new Batmobile.
After that, they equipped it with hook launchers, disc projectile launchers, bomb dispensers, a twin M1919 Browning machine gun, as well as a jet turbine-powered engine. Despite fans having mixed opinions on the movie, the car was definitely one of the best Batmobile adaptations.
3. Batmobile Mark II 1995
Tim Flattery changed the Batmobile concept in 1995 when he deviated from its classic designs in previous iterations. Instead, he designed a car that was heavily inspired by the comic book version.
He built the Batmobile by customizing fiberglass and equipping it on a Chevy 350 ZZ3 high-performance motor. The result was a futuristic style Batmobile with rib-cage-casing and pointy edges that heavily resemble a bat.
Note that this design earned some criticism from fans because it was “unrealistic.” However, this revolutionized the idea that Batman, with his high IQ, might design a highly advanced vehicle.
4. Dark Knight Trilogy Batmobile 2005
The last on this list is the Dark Knight Trilogy Batmobile in 2005. This rebooted version of the Batmobile was designed to resemble a military tank!
Christopher Nolan said this version, called “The Tumbler,” was an all-terrain combat vehicle that operates like “a muscular workhorse rather than a sleek, stylish cruiser.” Paired up with its machine guns, missiles, and explosives, this vehicle definitely left a strong impression among fans.
