Utah Department of Transportation cameras positioned at the entrance of both Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon from the city show long lines.
Those eager to enter the canyons and head into the mountains will need to be patient and should expect some major delays.
Fresh snow and blowing winds will present a challenge to drivers who traverse higher in elevation.
The traction law is in effect for both canyons due to the wintry weather.
Avalance Warnings are also present in the area until Saturday morning.
The Utah Avalanche Center is urging everyone to avoid the backcountry of almost all of Utah’s mountains.
Related, Utah Highway Patrol said State Road 6 was closed earlier this morning due to the winter weather and the resulting spinoffs and crashes.
This caused a backup of semi trucks and other vehicles attempting to make the trip through.
Nobody was injured in any of the crashes and the road has reopened.
On and off snow is expected to continue through the day will impact driving conditions all across Utah including the but Cottonwood Canyons.
