MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marquette’s postseason hopes were teetering as the new year arrived. The Golden Eagles had lost four straight games and dropped their first three Big East matchups. The skid culminated with a crushing, double-overtime home loss to Creighton on New Year’s Day in which they allowed a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first extra session. But the 22nd-ranked Golden Eagles haven’t lost since. Marquette (14-6, 6-3 Big East) has won six straight entering Wednesday night’s game at Seton Hall (12-6, 3-5). That winning streak includes four victories over teams that were ranked in the Top 25 at the time.
UNDATED (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers are hoping their recent regular-season dominance over the Los Angeles Rams extends to the playoffs. The Niners have swept the season series against the Rams the past three seasons and take a six-game winning streak in the series into the NFC title game. It’s the 24th time in the Super Bowl era that division rivals will meet in the postseason following a regular-season sweep — and the team that wins the two regular season games is 14-9 in the rematch.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers says he can’t envision a scenario in which he comes out of retirement once he ends his playing career. Rodgers has said he hasn’t decided whether to return to the Packers, pursue a trade or retire. The three-time MVP went into more details about his future Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show” on YouTube and SiriusXM. Rodgers said that “one thing I would not do, 100% not do, is retire and then come back a year later.”
UNDATED (AP) — Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers says he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuilding project. Neither does his current coach. Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur says the Packers have no plans to rebuild even as they head into the offseason with major salary-cap constraints and plenty of notable players on expiring contracts. The Packers’ roster issues could impact whether the 38-year-old Rodgers decides to return to Green Bay next season. The Packers’ 2021 season ended Saturday with a 13-10 NFC divisional playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
