JACKSONVILLE – The consensus continues to be a consensus.
Or very close to one, anyway.
Aidan Hutchinson, an edge defender from the University of Michigan, increasingly has been projected to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft in recent weeks. That continued in this week’s 11th jaguars.com mock drafter, with Hutchinson projected to the Jaguars No. 1 overall by 13 of 17 analysts.
“The Jaguars are going Hutchinson at No. 1 after franchising Cam Robinson; the Michigan star is an instant-impact type who can thrive on three downs,” Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports wrote.
Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network wrote that “Hutchinson is slowly looking like the favorite” for the Jaguars at No. 1.
“He’s a great athlete with a never-ending motor and violent hands,” Cummings wrote.
Other analysts on Hutchinson to the Jaguars:
- Derrik Klassen of Football Outsiders: “Hutchinson is not as electric as the typical first-overall pass-rusher, but his blend of quickness, strength, and savvy hand usage should make for a good running mate for [edge defender] Josh Allen out of the gate.”
- Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network: “The Jags addressed the offensive line by tagging [left tackle] Cam Robinson and signing [right guard] Brandon Scherff; those moves point to a pass rusher with their first pick, and Hutchinson is the best one in the class.”
- Pete Prisco of CBS Sports: “They landed a bunch of players in free agency, including bringing back Cam Robinson and signing Brandon Scherff to the offensive line; that means they go edge and take Hutchinson.”
- Austin Gayle of Pro Football Focus: “Expect him to lead a much-needed culture shift as a core leader in Jacksonville early on in his career.”
Pro Football Network analyst Cam Mellor projected North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall, writing that the Jaguars must “protect [quarterback] Trevor Lawrence at all costs.”
Former Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, now with the NFL Network, projected Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker No. 1 overall to the Jaguars.
“The Georgia product gives the Jags a major boost up front as a versatile defender capable of playing anywhere on the D-line,” Jones-Drew wrote.
