SALT LAKE CITY — Police in Utah say a man was drunk in an airport garage when he accidentally hit his wife and then dragged her with an SUV, killing her.
Salt Lake City police told KUTV that Shawn and Charlotte Sturgeon had just returned from a vacation at Salt Lake City International Airport with their young daughter, and surveillance video shows them getting into their SUV in the garage.

Police said the video shows that as Charlotte Sturgeon was putting the child into the backseat, Shawn Sturgeon began driving the car in reverse, causing his wife to fall to the ground. The video shows the car then running her over, and dragging her for approximately 10 feet, KUTV reported.
Sturgeon is then accused of picking his wife up, putting her in the passenger seat, and driving her to the airport toll booths to ask for help, police told KSTU.

Court documents obtained by KSL-TV show the officer who took Sturgeon to the police department said his patrol car smelled like alcohol, and Sturgeon “made several spontaneous utterances that he ‘ran my wife over,’ ‘killed my wife’ and ‘I accidentally ran her over.’”
Charlotte Sturgeon was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
