Who creates protocols for school threats?
UTAH (ABC4) – In 2019, the Utah Legislature passed the Student and School Safety Assessment Bill, which created the Utah State Board of Education School Safety Center. This center has evidence-based guidance for schools, but that doesn’t mean they have to follow it.
The Utah State Board of Education Safety Center says they provide evidence-based guidance, referencing a report that 99 percent of school threats are not carried out.

UDOT provides tips on driving safely through winter storm
OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) – With rain turning to snow, a storm like this one is difficult to prepare for, according to Mitch Shaw, a spokesperson for the Utah Department of Transportation.
When a storm begins with snow, UDOT is able to put down a brine solution before the storm even arrives, helping melt the snow. But because rain just washes the solution away, the best UDOT can do is monitor the storm closely, and send out a fleet of snow plows where needed.

The Colorado River and Lake Powell Pipeline controversy
ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) – The Washington County Water Conservancy District is working to secure the Lake Powell Pipeline, expected to bring up to 28 billion gallons of water yearly to St. George if federally approved.
“We are and have been planning on how to deal with this, the hydrology is lower, and now we’re looking at additional things that will be required in order for us to maintain a sustainable river,” says Gene Shawcroft, the Colorado River Commissioner for Utah.
