SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake announced that forward Justin Meram has officially re-signed with the club on a multi-year contract.
The club announced the transaction on Monday, January 10.
“I’m so thankful and blessed to re-sign with RSL,” Meram said. “The organization and fans have treated me and my family incredibly well since I joined in 2020. I’m thankful for my relationship with Pablo [Mastroeni] and the coaching staff for their belief in me. I’m ready for 2022 and to push for a championship with this Club.”
Meram’s new deal is for two seasons.
“Since his arrival in Salt Lake ahead of the 2020 season, Justin has been a valuable contributor to our team.” RSL general manager Elliot Fall said. “Ensuring his return for 2022 was a priority for us this offseason and we’re very pleased we were able to get it done. Justin will provide Pablo and his staff another proven attacking option for our group moving forward.”
Meram concluded the 2021 season in superb form. Under newly appointed manager Pablo Mastroeni, Meram came off the bench for Real Salt Lake down the stretch and frequently impacted games, aiding the club to a Western Conference Final birth against Portland.

Most notably, Meram’s role in the semifinal clash against Sporting Kansas City was pivotal in Real Salt Lake reaching the Western Conference Final.
In December 2021, it was rumored that Meram had interest from three unknown Major League Soccer clubs but Real Salt Lake was not one of them. However, since Mastroeni had the interim tag removed from his job title he has convinced Meram to return to Real Salt Lake for at least one more season.
During Meram’s exit interviews with the media, he made it very clear that his first priority will be to return to Real Salt Lake, stating that his young family is very happy in Utah and that he enjoyed his experience under Mastroeni immensely.
Real Salt Lake players and staff will report to the training facility in Herriman, Utah on January 16th to commence the 2022 pre-season.
