Hyderabad: About 150-odd doctors from different parts of the country set aside their stethoscopes and scalpels and instead wielded the bat and showed their expertise with the ball taking time out to play T20 cricket tournament. Particularly since the past few years of the mind- numbing pandemic, some recreation and some stress busting from their exhausting, stressful patient-treating schedules is just what the doctor has ordered. The doctors from Goa, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, two teams from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana took part in this tournament.
Healthy Living Charitable Trust, which was established this year, organized this event. It conducted sports and fitness events for the medical profession that would promote team spirit and importance of healthy living by means of sports activities. The trust will arrange and organize doctors’ discussion and seminars.
The group of doctors – Dr Anand Agroya, Dr Krishna Kiran, Dr.Suman Banik, Dr.Vikas Reddy, Dr.Krishna Bhargava (Orthopaedicians) and Dr.Mahesh Reddy (Pediatrician) –held this first-ever National Doctors Cricket Tournament at VLCG and SCG Cricket Ground, Moinabad.
“This is the first edition of National Doctors Cricket tournament. Sports are integral part of one’s life. It makes you healthy and fit. Being active is life should be the priority of an individual for better physical and Mental Health,’’ said Dr Anand, who is the secretary of the Healthy Living Charitable Trust.
Dr Krishna Kiran, co-chairman National Doctors Cricket Tournament, said sports is one of the therapy for stressful life. “This tournament gave the doctors a platform to showcase their talent and take out some time from their hectic life. It provides them moments to cherish and let them take away unforgettable memories for life,’’he said.
Hosts Hyderabad Hurricanes won the inaugural tournament beating Delhi Champions. Dr Seshagiri, who won the man of the match for his hurricane 96 in the final, said these types of tournaments could free the doctors from stress. ”It is a good recreation for the doctors,’’ he said.
Other awards: Best batsmen of the tournament: Dr.Akash (Delhi), Best bowler of the tournament: Dr.Anirudh Saxena (Delhi), Best fielder of the Tournament: Dr. Tharun Kota (Bengaluru); Man of the Series: Dr. Borugadda Roopesh (Vijayawada). As part of the Save Girl Child, a girl gave away prizes to the winners.
Hari Krishna Garu (CEO, Medicover Hospitals), R P Singh (Ex-DGP – Joint Andhra Pradesh), Noel David (former international), Vasu Raju Garu (Managing Director of Sri Vedatraye Developers) were guests of honours on the final day.
