On Wednesday morning President Joe Biden tapped Trina Higgins to be the next U.S. Attorney for the District of Utah.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Higgins would be the first woman ever nominated to serve in the position in the Beehive State.
Higgins has served as an assistant U.S. Attorney for Utah since 2002. Prior to her federal service, Higgins was a deputy district attorney in the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.
Andrea Martinez is the current acting U.S. Attorney for Utah. She moved into that position after John Huber stepped down from the post last year.
Several prominent Utah lawyers were rumored to be up for the job, including Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill, Park City attorney Margaret Plane, Kim Cordova, Greg Skordas and Martinez.
Higgins received her J.D. from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1995 and her B.A. from Weber State University in 1992.
